Where to Stay

You’ll find the perfect place to stay in New Orleans without much effort whether you prefer a hotel, condo, timeshare, or bed and breakfast. With 37,000 rooms, the Big Easy can accommodate your needs and fulfill your wishes for a room with a view of the River, a spot in the middle of the music and nightlife, or a place to exercise and run off a bit of yesterday’s five-course meal.

In the French Quarter

The French Quarter is filled with hotels, many of which are small boutique places offering old-world ambiance with new world luxury and convenience. If your preference is a bed and breakfast or condo, those are available too. And owners frequently offer their timeshares for a week or weekend. The French Quarter Courtyard, the St. Ann Marie Antionette, the Inn on Bourbon, and the Chateau Hotel all offer special rates and packages.

A note about driving your vehicle in the French Quarter–the busy streets are mostly one-way, crowded with pedestrians, blocked by the never-ending construction, and used by the mule-driven carriages. Hotels offer parking, but usually not on the premises. Valet parking is always available. Public parking is scarce.

Downtown/Business District

You may want to stay in the Downtown/Business area or near the Convention Center at some of the city’s larger hotels. A new Lowe’s, the five-star Ritz-Carlton, the Doubletree, Marriott, Sheraton, Baronne Plaza Hotel, and the Fairmont are among the places to stay. Some are within walking distance or a short cab or limousine ride to the Quarter’s restaurants, jazz clubs, and bars. All offer their own amenities, dining, and entertainment. Most of the hotels are not far from the other attractions, such as the Aquarium of the Americas, the Riverwalk indoor mall, the Shops at Canal Street, or Harrah’s Casino.

Garden District

Hotels line St. Charles Avenue in the Garden District, including the Garden District Hotel, a Hampton Inn, and the famous Pontchartrain Hotel, among others. Visitors can hop the St. Charles Avenue streetcar to go to the French Quarter. Tulane and Loyola Universities, the Convention Center, and Superdome are minutes away from these hotels. Shops, galleries, and fine dining are in this neighborhood too.
